The Good and the Bad

Cow-a-bunga! It's been almost 2 weeks since I was last one. 2! I honestly thought it'd been like 5 days, nope, it's been 12. Apparently life has been busy! Let's catch up!

The Good
I learned how to make soup. Actually, I attempted making soup. Real soup that is from scratch. It was amazing and delicious and one of my favorites now.
Meet: Cheesy Potato Soup

I also have had more time at home alone since the Hubs is beginning classes for his Law Enforcement Certificate (yay him!). More time at home = snuggle time with Aruba and Remington!
Meet: Super sleepy and cuddly puppy

I got together with a bunch of girlfriends (as happens every Monday) to watch the Bachelor. I'm not sure if you've been following or even know what I'm talking about, but if you know who Ben is, you'll like this... My friend Shauna made the shocking discovering of who Ben actually looks like: Francine, yes from the children's show Arthur. Here, take a look:

Meet: Francine

Meet: Ben

My mother flies in tomorrow evening on a layover flight and I get to have dinner with her! I cannot wait! We get to see each other several times a year and I'm so excited to add one more tally to this year's visits.

The Bad
Starting off this week feeling sick. It made have been from a crazy week and weekend where the Hubs and I rushed from one thing to next, almost not taking a breath in-between. Note to self - relax for at least an hour each day next weekend.

Remington took me for a walk the other day... We went walking out in our woods and he must have caught a scent of something especially delicious because he took off and disappeared for a solid 20 minutes. 20 minutes into a large field bordered by woods aka I had no chance of finding him if he didn't come back. Thankfully, he came a-running, his scent chasing desire satisfied!

No snow. I know anyone who probably lives in the Midwest area or north of the USA border is thinking I am a complete nutcase, BUT I WANT IT! I love snow! We haven't have one big snow storm yet this winter and I just don't feel like I can truly appreciate the cold and brown-dead trees until a good ol' storm blows through.

Gushy-Oohing Animals

Thursdays are the weirdest day of the week. You're no longer at the beginning, but not quite at the end. It's like the middle book or books of a series. I just read the Hunger Games, and I think Thursdays are a lot like Catching Fire. In the middle, with important things going on, but not as good as the conclusion- like a Friday.

So, on this Thursday, here is a bit of happiness to brighten up your wonderful almost-weekend Thursday!

First, let's watch how dumb our cat can be. Aruba is precious and adorable. However, if something if moving and is not normally moving, she chases it. No exceptions. Even with the television...

Now, isn't that just fabulous? Just pure entertainment. Oh wait, there's more. You thought you were done, oh no! There's more gushing, oohing and awing about animals to come!

Here's another one of our brilliant pets... Remington. He's actually quite smart considering the following video taken when he was about 6 months old:

He still chases his tail even though we officially celebrated his 1 year birthday this week (I'm pretty sure the Humane Society was wrong, he's older than a year!) Regardless, he's a great dog and I have a lot of fun with him. Especially when we go for walks.... He likes to place "chase" and "hide-n-seek"

Hope that helps get you to the end of your week!
Bring it on Friday!!!

The Good, no Bad

A mixture between the long weekend and a couple of crazy days in training at work, I almost forgot to share my bestest moments from this weekend...

The Hubs and I made some Christmas returns. You know, the stuff you got but already had or really didn't need? Well, we weren't quite ready to go home so we pulled into the cutest little Starbucks- maybe 5 tables total in the little cafe. With our mochas in hand, we played a couple games of checkers and just chatted about life. There are few things more enjoyable than sitting over a cup of coffee and not having any other distraction. You have to talk, if you don't. Well, that's just awkward!

I also spent some time de-cluttering the house. It's a great feeling to throw things away and know you're never going to have to see them again. I love it.

Remington enjoyed the day too. He discovered several different things:

  1. He can climb up onto the toilet
  2. He can see outside, but not be cold
  3. He can watch cars go by, very exciting for a chilly winter day

When we could not stand it any longer, Remington and I headed out to the woods and pasture for a long walk. The sun was shining, but it was chilly!

Jay even came out and joined us for one of our walks this weekend! Remington runs to even destination, coming back periodically to check and see how we are doing, then he takes off again.

Made it Through Week 1, Almost

Week 1 almost done of Biggest Loser. I started working out on Monday. For those that don't know this about me, I hate sweating. Maybe it's the whole idea that women are not meant to perspire. Women glisten. Anything more than a glisten is disgusting. At least when it comes to me. However, working out sometimes requires a little more than glistening. Especially with this Biggest Loser Challenge. We currently have 5 people, which includes myself, participating. Together we are going to work over the next 4 month on:

Learning a healthier way of living through
eating right, exercising regularly and
establishing better lifestyle habits
with other women who hold you accountable.

I worked out every single day this week. I drank more water than usual, although there is definitely room for improvement still. I ate better food. Hello fruits and vegetables! I practiced self control and even turned down delicious pizza. I don't know if anything has changed in the weight department (weigh in is on Monday, so truth will come out then!) but I can say that I feel more comfortable in my own skin.

So here's to week 1! I'm almost done. I even sweated when I worked out. Gross! Bring on week 2!

PS. If you still want to join our Biggest Loser: Home Edition Competition, there's still time!!! Just let me know by Monday! Send me a message. Asap.

Woodsy Weekend

Last weekend we spent the day on Saturday out in the woods preparing for maple syrup season. There is an old worn down road that winds back into the woods to the Sugar Shack (the lean-to where we cook down the sap to make delicious maple syrup). Last winter and summer there were a number of storms that blew down old worn down trees blocking numerous spots along the road.

The wood from the trees is generally pretty good for fire wood, since it's held off the ground most of the year. We chopped, split, carried and dragged a lot of branches and logs and twigs.

It took a bit to get the patched together wood splitter started and running, but once it was humming along, we got a lot of wood split and stacked. This "winter" has been perfect for getting wood ready for maple syrup season since it was almost 50 degrees on Saturday. 50 degrees! And it's January!

Our nephew, Keagan was a big helper. He kept the tractor running and dragged branches his size.

Remington even tagged along all day. He followed the tractor, attempted to wrestle branches from us as we cleared the road and had a blast all day! He totally crashed when we came inside. It took about 3 minutes for him to fall asleep.

All in all, it was a great weekend! First one home since the holidays!

Vlog Guest Post: Betsy Simons' Story

Here is a story of someone I'd like to share about: Betsy. She is an incredible woman of God, constantly seeking after His heart. In the past months, He's really put on her heart to building into the lives of teens through a ministry called TreeHouse. Watch the video below as she shares her heart:

I am the Biggest Loser

Today is day 1 of being the Biggest Loser.

New Years Resolution:
Establish a healthier way of living via
Biggest Loser, Home Edition Challenge.

I'm not doing this alone either. My mother and I are starting our of Biggest Loser: Home Edition Challenge today. It was a $20 fee to join and winner takes all. However, while that might provide a little bit of motivation, it's not about the money. Excuse the cliche phrase, but it's true. It's easy to just pick a New Year's Resolution revolving around losing weight, but this resolution is about establishing a healthier way of living. Here's the plan...

The Initial Weigh In was today. Along with measurements. Every week, we will weigh in. Every month, we will weigh and measure. I have a beautiful spreadsheet that will keep track of everything and calculate our percentages for us. We are going to do it for 4 months and who ever has the highest percentage loss at the end wins the $40 and the title of the Biggest Loser.

BUT here is the cool part that comes with doing this challenge. Not only am I being held accountable by my own mother, who knows how to motivate me in ways only a mother can, but I am also not alone in doing this. We are doing this for 4 solid months, meaning that we will be establishing habits both in the ways we choose to eat as well as be active.

I'm excited, a bit nervous as any big hairy challenge should be a bit scary, but ready for change! So... here's to day 1 of 4 months of pursuing healthy habits.

The Good and The Bad

I feel like I should start with the bad, it makes the ending so much better... so excuse me for starting off like a negative nancy, but you know the happiness is coming!

The Bad:
- Flying home this week. Which meant saying good bye to the fan and not having another trip booked in the near future made it about a hundred times harder.
- Ending vacation. Alarms and early mornings are not my preference, so kissing the sweet end of my 10 whole days off was difficult!
- Having a sick puppy two nights in a row. Poor Remy! But, he is feeling better and had his appetite back today, so I think we are in the clear tonight.
- Unpacking. Need I really say more?

The Good:
- Coming home from the holidays to the two most adoring animals. Remy was beside himself with happiness and couldn't decide which person to go to. Aruba got up every 15 minutes throughout the night just to make sure we were still there and had slept on top of me every night since.
- The Hubs being home. He's between jobs and about to start school again, so he's been home in the morning and made me coffee. AND, he made dinner one night too!
- Eating healthy again. Part of my New Years resolution, but that blog is coming on Monday. Hint: Biggest Loser, Home Edition.
- Sleeping in my own bed. Nothing really compares...
- It's the weekend!

Back from the Holidays

I've been on holiday. Maybe you haven't noticed. But it's been a week. A solid week of family. A week of way too much food. A week of laughing and games. And it's been fabulous. Both the Hubs and I highly value the importance of family and since this year we had the opportunity to spend it with my side of the family, taking the time to blog just didn't quite sit right with me. We see my side of the family two maybe three times a year and in those short periods of time, we cram in as much time together as we can.

This holiday, we went jumping a place called Skyhigh. Picture this, a room filled with different arenas, each about the side of a basketball court. Except, there isn't a basketball court, there are trampolines! 30 or so trampolines all next to each other to make one huge arena to jump in. Even the sides are tilted and have trampolines to jump on!

Another huge highlight was our New Years Eve Bowling Night. We waited for two lines for over an hour and may have had more fun waiting than actual bowling. Equipped with a camera and many goofy sisters, we had a blast. Bowling was great too, but none of us are looking promising for the bowling Olympics. Several of us did break 100, which is always a feat to be mentioned!

Coffee dates, learning a new game (Ticket to Ride), many shopping trips to the mall and countless hours drinking lattes and eating one too many peanut butter balls made for an incredible holidays. It's pulling to a close as the Hubs and I return to (hopefully snowy) Minnesota tomorrow.

To come: New Years Resolutions
